Request for additional text

[edit]

Since the template is protected, I cannot edit it, but I think there should be additional instructions added to it, along these lines: "This template may be removed from images that have since been added to articles, but only if such use satisfies the rules regarding fair use." More than once, I've placed this on a copyrighted image, then someone has added the image to an article for which it has no possible claim of fair use. Then someone else comes along and removes the template because it isn't unused. So I have to remove it from the article for which it has no possible claim of fair use, and re-add this template to the image. The whole process would be a lot more streamlined if the editor who removed it had simply checked to make sure the image's use was legit in the first place, so I think this would be good additional instructions to put on the template itself. --Icarus (Hi!) 23:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong date?

[edit]

Why does the example say 11 August 2008, when today is 13 August? --Apoc2400 (talk) 15:13, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change of image to file

[edit]

{{edit protected}}

Change the "Image:" to "File:" when using the replacement parameter please. --Yarnalgo talk to me 00:44, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 Done; let me know if there are any problems. –Drilnoth (TCL) 01:01, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The text in the red box also says "image" while it should say "file". This is awkward with audio files such as File:Synclavier_II_Demo_2.ogg. Olli Niemitalo (talk) 06:03, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from FleetCommand, 25 May 2010

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Hi

Please transclude documentation page into this template. Simply add {{documentation}} template to code. The code should look like this:

{{in category|Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files}}
{Documentation}}
[[Category:File deletion templates|{{PAGENAME}}]]

Thanks Fleet Command (talk) 19:34, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

checkY Done, more or less. categorization is easier place in the documentation page, and I'd think the function of the "in category" should be taken over by the documentation page as well. Cheers, Amalthea 21:28, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date

[edit]

I was thinking (I do that alot without much success), that perhaps the Syntax section of the documentation should read:

==Syntax==
Usage:
<code>
:'''{{di-orphaned fair use'''
::'''|date =''' {{subst:date}}
::'''|replacement =''' ''replacement image (optional)''
:'''}}'''
</code>

The reason I say this is that there are alot of files (32 before I went and fixed all of them) that end up in Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files as of unknown date 2011. By putting that into the usage perhaps It would reduces (but I admit it wont elimiate) those numbers. However, I have to admit that this seems to obvious so I wondering if there is a reason that this isn't the norm in most templates that sort there info by date (which is isn't). I'm wondering if I'm missing something?--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 13:17, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent examples

[edit]

The example in the doc says the |date= parameter should be given as date = ~~~~~ (which yields e.g. date = 06:53, 11 May 2014 (UTC)), whereas the example in the template itself says the |date= parameter should be given as e.g. date = 11 May 2014. Which is it? 86.97.177.164 (talk) 06:53, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Either. The template allows lots of different date formats. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:23, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Could someone please remove the <noinclude>...</noinclude> from the tfm notice transclusion, as this template is a big message box in which transcluding the notice would not be disruptive.

Pppery 22:56, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Done @Pppery: Even aside from size, there's no rationale to hide TfD notices on internal-only templates, only a (very strong, in my view) rationale for doing so in mainspace, where readers unnecessarily have internal-only matters interrupting their reading.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  01:14, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request April 11, 2023

[edit]

Please change the wording of the first sentence of the template from "only under a claim of fair use" to "only under a claim of non-free use". Fair use and non-free use are not the same thing per WP:NFC#Background and it's better for the phrasing to be consistent what's used by Wikipedia policy to avoid any confusion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
